Income Certificate Rejection Reasons in Maharashtra – And How to Fix Each One

In Simple Words: Most Income Certificate rejections happen for the same few reasons β€” a name mismatch, missing document, or wrong income amount. All of them are fixable. Find your rejection reason in the list below and follow the steps to reapply successfully.

Getting your Income Certificate rejected is frustrating β€” especially when you don’t understand why. Here are the most common rejection reasons in Maharashtra and exactly how to fix each one.

Rejection Reason 1: Name Mismatch with Aadhaar

What it means: The name you entered in the application does not exactly match your Aadhaar.

Fix: Download your Aadhaar, check the exact spelling, and resubmit with that exact spelling. Even a missing space or extra initial causes rejection.

Rejection Reason 2: Father’s Name Mismatch

What it means: Father’s name differs between your Aadhaar and 7/12 extract or school documents.

Fix: Submit a notarised affidavit declaring both spellings refer to the same person, or get the 7/12 corrected.

Rejection Reason 3: Incomplete or Missing Documents

What it means: Required documents were not uploaded, or uploaded files were unclear/unreadable.

Fix: Check the document checklist and re-upload clear scanned copies (not photos taken at an angle).

Rejection Reason 4: Wrong Income Amount

What it means: The income declared in the form does not match the supporting documents or the affidavit.

Fix: Ensure the income figure in your form, your affidavit, and any salary slips all state the same amount.

Rejection Reason 5: Affidavit Not Notarised or Wrong Format

What it means: The affidavit you submitted was not notarised, or was in the wrong format.

Fix: Get a fresh affidavit notarised by a licensed Notary Public. Use the standard format.

Rejection Reason 6: Aadhaar Not Linked to Mobile

What it means: OTP-based Aadhaar verification failed because your Aadhaar is not linked to an active mobile number.

Fix: Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra to link your mobile number to Aadhaar, then reapply.

Rejection Reason 7: Address Mismatch

What it means: Your current address in the application does not match your Aadhaar address.

Fix: Use the exact address as printed on your Aadhaar. If you have moved, update your Aadhaar address first.

Common Questions

Can I reapply immediately after a rejection, or do I need to wait?
You can reapply immediately once you have fixed the issue. There is no mandatory waiting period. Fix only what the rejection notice mentions β€” do not change unrelated fields.
I was rejected twice for the same reason. Is there anything else I can do?
Visit the Tehsildar office in person with all your original documents. Explain the situation and ask the officer to review your case directly. Sometimes a personal visit resolves issues that repeated online submissions cannot.
My affidavit was notarised but the officer still rejected it. Why?
The officer may have found the format incorrect or the income amount inconsistent with other documents. Get the affidavit redone using the standard format, making sure the income figure matches exactly what is entered in the form.
My Aadhaar mobile link is not working for OTP. What can I do?
Visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update or link your mobile number to Aadhaar. Once updated, OTP verification will work and you can reapply online.
