Domicile Certificate Rejected in Maharashtra – Reasons and How to Fix

In Simple Words: Most Domicile Certificate rejections happen because of name mismatches, insufficient residence proof, or unclear documents. All are fixable. Find your rejection reason below and follow the steps to reapply.

Rejection Reason 1: Aadhaar Name Mismatch

Your name in the application doesn’t exactly match Aadhaar.

Fix: Download your Aadhaar, note the exact spelling, resubmit with that exact spelling — every character, space, and punctuation must match.

Rejection Reason 2: Insufficient Proof of 15 Years Residence

You did not provide enough documents to prove you have lived in Maharashtra for 15+ years.

Fix: Gather older documents — school records, old ration cards, old voter ID, property documents. The more years covered by your documents, the stronger your case. Father’s domicile certificate is also very helpful.

Rejection Reason 3: Address on Aadhaar Doesn’t Match Application

The address you filled in the form is different from what’s on your Aadhaar.

Fix: Use the address exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar. If your Aadhaar has an outdated address, update it first.

Rejection Reason 4: Documents Are Unclear or Unreadable

The scanned documents were too dark, blurry, or cut off at the edges.

Fix: Re-scan all documents in good lighting. All text must be fully readable. Upload as PDF under 500KB.

Rejection Reason 5: Field Verification Failed

The Talathi visited your address but could not confirm your residence — either no one was home, or neighbours could not confirm.

Fix: Contact your Talathi office to reschedule the verification. Make sure someone is available at the address during working hours when verification is due.

Rejection Reason 6: Born in Another State With Insufficient Maharashtra Residence Proof

You were born outside Maharashtra and don’t have documents covering 15 full years in Maharashtra.

Fix: Compile every Maharashtra address document you have — school records, old bills, rent agreements — to cover as many years as possible. If parents have Maharashtra domicile certificates, include those.

Rejection Reason 7: Incorrect Purpose Mentioned

The purpose field was left blank or filled incorrectly.

Fix: Clearly state the purpose — “State quota college admission”, “Government employment”, or “Bonafide residence proof”. Match it to your actual need.

General Tips Before Reapplying

  1. Read the rejection reason carefully on Aaple Sarkar
  2. Address only what is mentioned — don’t change unrelated fields
  3. Reapply before your college/job application deadline — Domicile takes 7–15 working days

Requirements may vary by taluka. Always read the official rejection notice on Aaple Sarkar for your specific case.

Common Questions

I was rejected for 'insufficient residence proof'. What exactly do I need to add?
You need documents that together cover 15 years of Maharashtra residence. Add older documents — school LC, old voter ID, old ration card, or land records. Visit the Tehsildar office and ask which specific documents would satisfy the requirement.
My field verification failed because my neighbours did not confirm my residence. What can I do?
Request a re-verification and this time ensure you are home. You can also ask a long-standing neighbour or the local sarpanch / ward officer to provide a signed residence confirmation letter.
My application has been rejected 3 times. Is there any other way to get the certificate?
Visit the Tehsildar office in person and speak directly with the officer handling your case. Bring all originals and ask specifically what additional evidence is needed. Persistent in-person follow-up resolves most repeated rejection cases.
