What is an EWS Certificate in West Bengal?

An EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Certificate certifies that you belong to the General category or OBC and that your familyโ€™s income and assets fall below specified thresholds. It entitles you to 10% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions under the EWS quota.

It is required for:

No documents need to be uploaded during the online application. You download autogenerated forms after submission and submit physical copies with supporting documents at the office.


How to Apply Online โ€” castcertificatewb.gov.in

The EWS application has 4 pages. Complete each page carefully.


Page I โ€” Basic Information

  1. Jurisdiction โ€” Select your District, Sub-Division, Municipality or Block, and GP/Ward
  2. Personal details:
    • Full name
    • Fatherโ€™s name
    • Mobile number (numeric only)
    • Email address
  3. Category โ€” Select General or OBC (with caste/community selection for OBC)
  4. Identity proof โ€” Enter your Aadhaar number OR Khadya Sathi category and number
  5. Date and place of birth

Page II โ€” Address Details

  1. Present address (must cover your residence for the last 6 months minimum):
    • C/O name, Ward/GP, Village
    • Post Office, Pin Code, Police Station
  2. Permanent address โ€” can be the same as present address
  3. Two local referees โ€” names and full addresses of two local residents who can confirm your residence

Page III โ€” Personal Details

  1. Nationality โ€” auto-populated as Indian
  2. Religion โ€” select from dropdown
  3. Gender
  4. Migration history โ€” declare if you have migrated from another state or district

Page IV โ€” Income and Assets Verification

This is the most important page for EWS. All income and asset details must be declared accurately.

Submission and Downloads

After completing all 4 pages:

  1. Submit the application
  2. Download all three autogenerated documents:
    • Application form
    • Acknowledgement slip
    • Income and Assets declaration
  3. Print all three documents

After Online Submission โ€” Offline Stage

  1. Print all three downloaded documents
  2. Attach self-attested copies of supporting documents (identity proof, income proof, asset documents)
  3. Visit your SDO office or BDO office
  4. Submit the printed forms with supporting documents
  5. Field verification may be conducted
  6. Collect certificate once approved
