In Simple Words: If your name is spelled wrongly on Aadhaar, it will cause rejections on Income Certificate, Caste Validity, Scholarship, and almost every other Maharashtra government application. You can fix it online if your mobile is linked, or by visiting an Aadhaar centre. The correction takes 5–10 working days to reflect.
Before You Start — Check Your Aadhaar Name
Download your Aadhaar from myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and note exactly what is wrong:
- Is it a spelling mistake?
- Is your surname missing?
- Is the name in wrong order (first/last name swapped)?
- Is it a Marathi/English transliteration issue?
Minor spelling corrections can be done online. Major changes (completely different name) require visiting a centre with strong supporting documents.
Documents Required
You need at least one of these as proof of your correct name:
- Passport
- PAN card
- Voter ID (with correct name)
- Driving licence
- School leaving certificate / marksheet
- Bank passbook (with name and photo)
- Marriage certificate (if name changed after marriage)
The document must clearly show your correct name.
Method 1 — Online (if mobile number is linked to Aadhaar)
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- Click “Update Aadhaar Online”
- Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile
- Select “Update Demographics” → choose “Name”
- Enter the correct name exactly as you want it
- Upload a scanned copy of your supporting document
- Pay the fee of ₹50 online
- Submit — you get an Update Request Number (URN)
- Track status at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in using URN

Method 2 — Offline at Aadhaar Seva Kendra
Use this if your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar, or if the online correction is rejected.
- Find your nearest centre at uidai.gov.in → Locate Enrolment Centre
- Carry your original Aadhaar + original supporting document + one photocopy
- Fill the Aadhaar Update/Correction Form at the centre
- Submit the form with documents — biometric verification (fingerprint) will be taken
- Pay ₹50 fee at the counter
- You get an Acknowledgement slip with URN — keep it safe
- Track status online using the URN
Processing time: 5–10 working days
After the Correction
- Download your updated e-Aadhaar from myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in once the URN shows “Updated”
- Use the updated Aadhaar for all future applications
- If you had a pending rejected application, reapply after the name is updated
Important Limits
- Name can only be corrected 2 times in your entire lifetime — use it carefully
- Make sure the corrected name is exactly how you want it on all documents going forward
