In Simple Words: If your name is spelled wrongly on Aadhaar, it will cause rejections on Income Certificate, Caste Validity, Scholarship, and almost every other Maharashtra government application. You can fix it online if your mobile is linked, or by visiting an Aadhaar centre. The correction takes 5–10 working days to reflect.

Before You Start β€” Check Your Aadhaar Name

Download your Aadhaar from myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and note exactly what is wrong:

Minor spelling corrections can be done online. Major changes (completely different name) require visiting a centre with strong supporting documents.

Documents Required

You need at least one of these as proof of your correct name:

The document must clearly show your correct name.

Method 1 β€” Online (if mobile number is linked to Aadhaar)

  2. Click β€œUpdate Aadhaar Online”
  3. Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile

  5. Enter the correct name exactly as you want it

  7. Pay the fee of β‚Ή50 online
  8. Submit β€” you get an Update Request Number (URN)
  9. Track status at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in using URN

Processing time: 5–10 working days

  7. Track status online using the URN

Processing time: 5–10 working days

Common Questions

I already changed my name on Aadhaar once. Can I change it again?
Yes β€” name can be changed up to 2 times in your lifetime. If you have already changed it once, you have one more change remaining. Use it carefully.
My name change request was rejected by UIDAI online. What do I do?
The online system rejects changes that seem too different from the existing name. Visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra with your original proof document β€” offline requests are reviewed more flexibly by an operator.
My name correction is showing as 'Under Process' for 15 days. Is this normal?
The standard time is 5–10 working days, but sometimes it takes up to 30 days. Track status at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in using your URN. If no update after 30 days, call UIDAI helpline 1947.
Do I need to get a new physical Aadhaar card after a name correction?
No β€” once the correction is done, just download the updated e-Aadhaar PDF from myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. It will show your corrected name. If you want a new physical card, you can order an Aadhaar PVC Card for β‚Ή50.
