Before You Start
Collect these documents before opening the portal:
- Aadhaar card of every family member who will be on the card
- Head of familyโs mobile number linked to Aadhaar (for OTP)
- Passport-size photo of the head of family
- Income certificate โ how to get one (determines your card colour โ Yellow/Orange/White)
- Address proof โ one of: electricity bill, property tax receipt, rent agreement

Step-by-Step: Apply Online
Step 1 โ Open the portal
Go to rcms.mahafood.gov.in. Click โNew Ration Card Applicationโ from the homepage menu.
Step 2 โ Select your district and taluka
Choose your district, then your taluka from the dropdown. This routes your application to the correct supply office.
Step 3 โ Enter head of family details
Fill in:
- Full name (exactly as on Aadhaar)
- Aadhaar number
- Mobile number (an OTP will be sent for verification)
- Date of birth
- Gender
Step 4 โ Add all family members
Click โAdd Memberโ for each person to be included. You will need each personโs Aadhaar number and their relationship to the head of family (spouse, son, daughter, parent, etc.).
Step 5 โ Enter address details
Provide your complete current address. Select your Fair Price Shop (ration shop) from the list โ this is the shop where you will collect grain. If you donโt know which shop serves your area, ask your neighbour or look at an existing ration card from your locality.
Step 6 โ Upload documents
Upload scanned copies or clear photos of:
- Aadhaar cards (all members)
- Income certificate
- Address proof
- Passport photo of head of family
Each file must be under 500KB. If your scans are large, compress them at ilovepdf.com or similar.
Step 7 โ Submit and note your Application ID
After submitting, you will get an Application ID (e.g., RC/MH/XXXXXX). Save this. You will use it to track status.
