In Simple Words: Applying for a Domicile Certificate in Maharashtra takes about 20 minutes online. You fill a form on Aaple Sarkar, upload your documents, and your local Tehsildar processes it within 7–15 working days. The key is making sure all your names and details match your Aadhaar exactly — that is the most common reason for rejection.

Before You Start

Gather your documents first — the form will ask you to upload them during the process. See the full list: Documents required for Domicile Certificate

Make sure your Aadhaar details are correct. Any name or address mismatch will cause rejection. See: How to fix Aadhaar name mismatch

Step-by-Step Application Process

After Submitting

Track your application status: go to Aaple Sarkar → “Track Your Application” → enter your application number.

Processing stages:

Field Verification

For Domicile Certificates, a revenue officer (Talathi) may do a field verification — they visit your residence to confirm you actually live there. Make sure someone is home during working hours if verification is pending.

Download Your Certificate

Once approved, log in to Aaple Sarkar → Track Application → click “Download Certificate”. The digitally signed PDF is legally valid.

Always use the official Aaple Sarkar portal. Requirements may differ slightly by taluka.

Common Questions

The Talathi came for field verification when I was not home. What happens next?
The Talathi will either reschedule or make a note that no one was present, which may delay your application. Contact your local Talathi office proactively and request a new verification date.
Can I apply for Domicile Certificate if I live in a rented house?
Yes — rent receipts and a registered rent agreement are accepted as residence proof. The longer your tenancy history, the better.
I am a student living in a hostel. Can I apply for Domicile Certificate from my hometown address?
Yes — use your permanent home address (not hostel address) for the Domicile Certificate application. This is the address that should match your Aadhaar.
