Caste Validity Application Rejected in Maharashtra – Common Reasons and How to Fix

In Simple Words: Caste Validity rejections are very common in Maharashtra β€” mostly because of name mismatches, missing ancestor documents, or a caste certificate that was not yet valid. Every rejection reason is fixable. Find yours below and follow the steps to reapply.

Getting your Caste Validity (Scrutiny) application rejected in Maharashtra is more common than people realise. Here are the most frequent rejection reasons and how to resolve each one.

Rejection Reason 1: Aadhaar Name Mismatch

Your name in the application does not match your Aadhaar exactly.

Fix: Resubmit with the exact name from your Aadhaar β€” character for character.

Rejection Reason 2: Caste Certificate is Missing or Expired

You applied for validity without a valid caste certificate, or submitted an old / cancelled certificate.

Fix: Obtain a fresh, valid Caste Certificate from the Tehsildar first, then apply for validity.

Rejection Reason 3: Inconsistent Name Across Documents

Your name appears differently on your caste certificate, Aadhaar, school leaving certificate, or birth certificate.

Fix: Either correct the document with the discrepancy, or submit a notarised affidavit declaring all versions refer to you.

Rejection Reason 4: Documents of Ancestors Not Submitted

The Scrutiny Committee verifies your caste claim through family records β€” father, grandfather, etc. Missing ancestor documents is a common reason for rejection.

Fix: Collect and submit:

Rejection Reason 5: Wrong or Incomplete Application Form

Fields left blank, wrong category selected, or incorrect district/taluka information.

Fix: Fill the form carefully. Cross-check category (SC/ST/OBC/NT, etc.) against your caste certificate.

Rejection Reason 6: Unclear or Low-Quality Document Scans

The Scrutiny Committee could not read the uploaded documents.

Fix: Upload clear, high-contrast scanned PDFs (not photographs). All text must be fully legible.

After Getting Rejected

  1. Read the rejection notice carefully on the portal β€” note the specific reason
  2. Collect the required additional documents
  3. Reapply through the portal with corrected information and proper documents
  4. If repeatedly rejected, visit the District Caste Scrutiny Committee office directly

Important: Do Not Delay

Many institutions (colleges, employers) require your Caste Validity Certificate within a deadline. Start the process well in advance β€” scrutiny can take several weeks to months.

Common Questions

What ancestor documents do I need if my grandparents never had a caste certificate?
Try to get old school records of your father or grandfather showing the caste column, old ration cards, land records (7/12), or a village panchayat certificate. Any document from before 1950 that mentions caste is especially useful.
I was rejected because my caste certificate name doesn't match Aadhaar. Do I need a new caste certificate?
You need to correct the name mismatch first β€” either update your caste certificate with the correct name or correct your Aadhaar. Then reapply for scrutiny with the corrected document.
I have a hearing date from the Scrutiny Committee. What should I bring?
Bring all original documents β€” your caste certificate, Aadhaar, school certificates, any land records, and documents of your parents and grandparents. Also bring photocopies of everything. The committee may ask you questions about your family history.
How many times can I reapply after rejection?
There is no official limit on reapplications. However, if the committee has rejected you multiple times, consider visiting the office in person to understand exactly what additional proof is needed before reapplying.
